Served all over the world in the construction of roads, airfields, accommodation and facilities buildings etc. I have taught Plant at the RSME Chatham, as well as Assessing and Verifying NVQs to level 5. I hold a CPCS and NPORS Tester cards in 15 Categories, and also a NUCO trainer in Health and safety, Fire and Manual handling.
An experienced trainer, facilitator and coach at all levels. A Chartered Human Resource specialist with rail industry experience. An Associate Lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University and a Lead Tutor for the Chartered Institution of Railway Operators (CIRO). An experienced railway operator with 29 years’ experience in the UK rail industry primarily with Train Operating Companies and Infrastructure Controllers.
Over 30 years training experience in the Military. Power Generation and Oil Industries. I possess an Advanced Certificate in Education, A1 and V1 qualifications and I am a RTITB registered Forklift Instructor.
I specialise in development, delivery, assessment and training validation on new rolling stock and I have worked with Hitachi on the class 800 series of units and class 385 units. I have worked with CAF on Caledonian sleeper coaches (mark 5), class 397 and class 197 units. I am the lead trainer for Network Rail’s GSM-R Train Operation Fixed terminal and have carried out Risk Based Training Needs Analysis and Training Gap Analysis.
Worked as a Consultant for Crossrail and then for RTI working with various TOCs. Specialise in risk assessment (conducting and designing/delivering training) and change management and the associated Safety Case Papers.
I have experience in training stock, fire and first aid training as well as more formal subjects such as rules and procedures. At the moment I am delivering Personal Track Safety courses to engineering and depot staff.
With the intention of developing and maintaining, Traction and Rolling stock maintenance engineering skills, Plant Operator skills, Personal Track Safety, and various Safety Critical competencies for track workers. I hold a level 3 award in Education & Teaching and an Assessors qualification. I hold NEBOSH, IOSH and an RTITB certified Counterbalance Forklift Truck Operator instructor qualification. I also successfully completed with distinction my apprenticeship and am a qualified Diesel Electric Fitter equipping me with a number of electro-mechanical skills on GE Locomotives.
I then joined Sealink British Ferries as a Motor Man. Soon promoted to an Engineering Officer, I completed my Class 4 Motor Marine Engineers Qualification.
Moved on to the construction of the Channel Tunnel as an underground foreman for the Locomotive & Rolling Stock Engineering Department, and then onto commissioning the railway infrastructure.
That was the start of my 24-year career with Rail Freight mainly associated with the freight through the Channel Tunnel, where I progressed to be Area Engineering Production Manager. I am now a T&RS training consultant with RTI.
During my time with Southeastern I completed a 4-year apprenticeship, and gained experience in rolling stock maintenance, and fault finding. Prior to my work at Southeastern I was in the Royal Air Force Regiment for 2 years, and gained experience in combat medicine.
Previously working in local government for 7 years, I joined RTI in September 2022, completing a 3-year Electromechanical Engineering Apprenticeship through a partnership with IPS International and Southeastern Trains. I hold a Level 3 Award in Education & Training and an assessor’s qualification. I also hold IOSH and am a Level 3 First Aid Trainer/Assessor. I am currently working towards achieving a Level 4 IQA qualification and a Level 4 HNC in Engineering.
I am a qualified teacher with 38 years of teaching experience both in the UK and abroad, including over 12 years of teaching/lecturing at tertiary level. I have over 20 years of experience as a proofreader/reviewer of academic papers, as well as legal documentation.
I’m a qualified electrical and electronic engineer with extensive experience as a field service engineer working on complex IBM system hardware and related IT equipment.
Former employment as an RAF electronic engineering apprentice and 12 years in financial services IT support forming the backbone of my skills.
Using my experience in electrical engineering and Health and Safety (NEBOSH) within the rail industry, I maintain RTI’s staff training and competence levels, providing expertise for quality training development and delivery. Former employment serving 22 years as an electrical engineer, Health and safety manager and quality control manager in the armed forces.
I am a member of the UIC Expertise and Development Platform Steering Committee, helping to organise the World Congress of Rail Training. I have worked on railway research projects funded by the European Commission, Leonardo Programme and RSSB, with a number of published papers covering Non-Technical Skills and Risk-Based Training Needs Analysis (RBTNA) and have been a regular speaker at international industry events. I have also been a lecturer in Business Studies at undergraduate level.
